Data Science
About Pipe Pipe builds embedded capital for small businesses everywhere — credit products delivered inside the software platforms SMBs already use to run their businesses (think vertical SaaS, payments platforms, and marketplaces). How it works; merchant get an offer on the platform, understands it in seconds, accepts it in four clicks, and repays automatically as they earn. Behind that simplicity sits real credit risk, partner SDKs and APIs, money movement infrastructure, and capital markets infrastructure. We’re a remote-first team that ships fast, has high trust of our platform partners like Uber Eats, holds each other to a high bar, and leaves egos at the door.
The Role We are looking for a hands-on Senior Data Scientist who uses Python and agentic development tools, like Claude Code or similar, to design and implement statistical and machine learning models that directly impact our customers' financial outcomes. You will own the full modeling lifecycle across credit underwriting, risk management, and forecasting, and play a key role in shaping how we use data to serve small businesses better, and contribute to the technical direction of the broader data science teamThere are significant opportunities to grow and lead at Pipe.
Your key responsibilities will include: -Independently developing and owning statistical models that forecast cash flows and other drivers of business and customer health. -Designing and building models that optimize our product offerings to better serve our customers' needs. -Proactively exploring datasets to surface insights, and prototyping new approaches that create measurable value for customers. -Taking full outcome ownership of deployed models, including performance monitoring, residual analysis, and iteration, in close collaboration with engineering. -Mentoring junior team members, raising the technical bar through code and design review, and contributing to our data science best practices and long-term tooling roadmap. -Partnering with engineering and data engineering to productionize models, shape data infrastructure requirements, and improve our MLOps foundations.
Qualifications We are looking for a motivated, intellectually curious Senior Data Scientist with the following qualifications:
-4-7+ years of experience developing and deploying machine learning or statistical models in a production environment (inclusive of relevant post-undergraduate academic work) -Strong proficiency in Python and the broader data science ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, etc.), and high proficiency in SQL. -Familiarity with cloud-based MLOps platforms (e.g., SageMaker, Vertex AI, or similar) and comfort partnering with engineering to deploy and monitor models in production. -Personal or professional experience with, or strong interest in adopting, agentic development workflows and modern AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, or similar). -Deep fundamentals in probability, statistics, and machine learning, with the ability to choose the right tool for the problem. -Experience with credit risk modeling, underwriting, or other risk decision science domains such as insurance is strongly preferred. -Comfortable working cross-functionally and communicating complex modeling decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. -Strong written and verbal communication skills. -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Financial/Applied Math, Statistics, Economics, or a related technical field. Master's or PhD is a plus.
In general, you will be successful at Pipe if: -You want to join a fast-growing startup and make a real impact on customers. -You want to be part of a team that holds each other to high standards. -You have a strong technical foundation and are passionate about using your skills to help small businesses succeed. -You take end-to-end ownership of your work and enjoy collaborating across functions. -You thrive in an environment that values and rewards excellence.

The Role We're looking for a hands-on Data Scientist who treats AI tooling as a core part of the craft. You'll work in an agentic development environment, such as Claude Code, Cursor, and similar, to build, ship, and iterate on statistical and ML models faster than a traditional DS workflow allows. Your key responsibilities will include: -Partner with senior scientists to forecast cash flows and other drivers of business health using statistical and ML modeling. -Design and build models that make our capital products better for customers and deliver positive return assets. Not just deployment bespoke to the platforms Pipe serves (e.g., UberEats and Housecall Pro), but ongoing performance, residual analysis, drift detection, and the judgment calls about when a model needs to be retrained, replaced, or retired. You'll work closely with product, risk peers and engineering to make this real in production.
Qualifications We're looking for a motivated, curious Data Scientist with: - 3-5+ years building ML models, including training, evaluation, and deployment. -Fluency in Python and the standard stack (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, etc.). -Working comfortably with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) and standard dev tooling (GitHub, VS Code). -Strong fundamentals in probability, statistics, and machine learning. -Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable collaborating across functions and surfacing progress, tradeoffs, and results. -Bachelor's in CS, Applied/Financial Math, Statistics, Economics, or a related technical field. Master's is a plus, not a requirement. -Bonus: prior experience in credit risk modeling, underwriting, or adjacent risk decision sciences (insurance pricing, actuarial, fraud) is a strong plus.

Product
About Pipe
Pipe builds embedded capital for small businesses everywhere; credit products delivered inside the software platforms SMBs already use to run their businesses (think vertical SaaS, payments platforms, and marketplaces).
How it works: merchants get an offer on the platform, understand it in seconds, accept it in four clicks, and pay automatically as they earn.
The Role You’ll own a slice of how merchants experience capital from Pipe. Servicing flows, money movement rails that make them work in the five countries we serve - US, UK, CA, AUS and NZ, and the APIs, and integrations. This means partner-facing APIs for offer surfacing and acceptance, split payout logic with partners like Uber Eats and Housecall Pro, and bank rail integrations that move dollars in and out at scale. It’s where product design, credit logic, partner engineering, and payments infrastructure meet. And where a lot of Pipe’s economics get made.
You’ll own measurable outcomes and high stakes interactions with our partners, not just ship features. Expected metrics include partner integration adoption and growth, and positive internal rate of return on the flows you touch. You’ll work directly with engineering, design, risk, capital markets, and partner success and you’ll be expected to have a point of view, not just synthesize others’.
What you’ll do • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for merchant capital UX, partner-facing APIs, and the servicing and money movement flows underneath them. • Develop and maintain a prioritized roadmap tied to specific conversion, adoption, money movement, and margin outcomes. • Partner directly with engineering on API and rails design; webhook patterns, idempotency, reconciliation, failure handling, partner sandbox experience, and the operational realities of working with payment providers. You should have opinions here, not just relay them. • Run user and partner research: talk to merchants, sit with partner engineering teams, watch real usage. • Write specs tight enough that engineering can build from them and product reviews can challenge them. • Define, monitor, and analyze metrics yourself; pulling your own SQL when you need to. • Drive cross-functional alignment across Engineering, Design, Risk, Legal, Marketing, Capital Markets and Partner Success.
What we’re looking for • 2-4 years of product management experience, ideally in fintech, embedded finance, or developer-facing platforms. Strong candidates from adjacent backgrounds (engineering, credit, partnerships) who’ve transitioned into PM are also welcome. • You can read API docs critically and have shipped products where the API was the product, or close to it. • Exposure to money movement is a strong plus; ACH, card rails, split payouts, reconciliation, or direct work with providers • SQL fluency. You pull your own data; you don’t wait for a dashboard. • Comfort using AI tools (Cursor, Claude, similar) to prototype, draft, and unblock yourself rather than waiting on others’ bandwidth. • Curiosity about credit; underwriting, repayment mechanics, loss dynamics. You don’t need to be a risk expert, but you should want to become fluent. • Strong written communication. We make a lot of decisions asynchronously and the quality of your writing will shape the quality of those decisions. • Track record of shipping things that moved real metrics, not just shipped. You’ll be successful here if: • You’d rather own a smaller surface and move it meaningfully than coordinate a larger one and move it slowly. • You’re comfortable making calls with imperfect data and revising fast. • You find the intersection of credit, software, and partner ecosystems genuinely interesting, not just a job.
Compensation and benefits The annual US base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $220,000.
