Pipe CEO Claurelle Rakipovic Talks Leadership & Tech in Women Leading the Way Podcast
Our CEO, Claurelle Rakipovic, recently joined the Women Leading the Way podcast to talk about how AI and embedded capital are changing small-business finance. A few highlights from the conversation:
Find inspiration in what's possible, not just what's proven. Across Amazon, Capital Group and now Pipe, Claurelle keeps coming back to the same driver: what's newly possible resets what's valuable. Tools that didn't exist a few years ago change the ceiling on what a business — or an industry — can do, and she treats that shift as the opportunity, not a footnote to it.
Go deep, but don't lose the whole system. Technical depth mattered at every stop in her career — understanding the underlying science well enough to actually move a business's levers, not just manage around it. But she's clear that depth alone isn't the point. Without a view of the whole system a decision sits inside, it's easy to build the deep thing and still miss the bigger opportunity around it.
What the CEO seat actually teaches. Claurelle names two shifts. First, figure out fast which decisions truly need you — the ones only you have the context and conviction to make — and build your time, your hires and your strategy around that, rather than staying pulled into every decision. Second, accept that the buck stops with you: earlier in her career, a call might go through 70 rounds of debate with leadership before it shipped. As CEO, she still gathers that input, but there's no one left to ratify the final call. The frontier of the business is hers to define, and so are the stakes.
Some great advice. There’s a lot of regret that comes from not learning and striving for what you value. People will forget your mistakes, so let go of the fear of failure or embarrassment over not getting it right. Put that energy into moving forward. Continue to define and redefine what you're capable of instead of letting anyone else set limits on you and your ambitions.
